Year End Special

It’s been made official – Xtuple has tested and verified that the newest OS/X “Lion” from Apple is now considered good to go – for their client software.

It seems all the various players had some small issues in the pre-release / beta phase of the Lion roll out, that were successfully handled.

The biggest hassle right now is getting a full postgresql server runing on Lion Server – which comes with a pre-installed copy of postgresql -  but not quite setup the way we need.

So, as we progress, we’ll keep you up to date.

It’s been an exciting summer, and the new OS X upgrade from Apple (aka “Lion”) has got everybody’s attention.

Officially – Xtuple has let us know that they have run into issues with Lion – and are not recommending the upgrade until there’s an official release for Lion of the various tool kits used by the Xtuple developers.

Of course, clients are impatient – so we’ve been working with one of our most hard core Mac customers, and have been testing stuff out. Short answer – unofficially – is that we’ve learned that the Xtuple/Postbooks clients will run just fine on Lion. No issues.

You still need a compatible database server – and Lion server comes with Postgresql 9.0 – which IS NOT COMPATIBLE with Xtuple – yet. So, no go on Lion server yet.

Also, we learned that Xtconnect – the back end tool for scheduled email documents, reports, etc. does not seem to operate totally correctly – no emails sent etc.

So if you get a new Mac with Lion on it – go to town, setup your client software all is okay – un-officially.
